Sad News from Congregation Agudath Sholom Friday, October 2 - 6:15 PM

Sad News from Congregation Agudath Sholom
Congregation Agudath Sholom Sad News

We were all shocked yesterday by the senseless murders in Oregon. Our prayers are with the families of the victims and pray that God grants them comfort and strength.

Our hearts and minds are also with our brothers and sisters in Israel. To our horror, a young couple in Israel was murdered last night, Rav Eitam and Naama Henkin. They are the son and daughter in law of Rabbinit Chana Henkin of Nishmat and Rabbi Yehuda Henkin. Their six children are now orphans, bereft of their parents.

We pray that God grants the family and all us strength. The funeral was today and shiva begins in Israel after the holiday. We mourn the loss with deep sadness and horror. Rav Eitam was an outstanding Torah scholar and he and his wife wholly devoted their lives to God by strengthening the Torah of Israel and the State of Israel.  They desired to live in peace and security.

Our daughter Adina, and others in our community, studied with Rav Eitam at Nishmat and members of our shul have children who lived near them in the town of Neria. I spoke to Adina who attended the funeral. It was so sad. No words can heal the pain. This morning, at the bris of our new nephew, he was given the name Eitam in memory of Rav Eitam. We pray for strength.

Naama Henkin's parents, Hanan and Hela Armoni, requested that people post in their sukkot for the remainder of the holiday, a new colorful poster designed by Naama for this Sukkot, which she had posted on her Facebook page. The link is here. Poster. Here is a link to Rav Eitam's website. Rav Eitam's website with dozens of articles on Halachah, history, and other matters of Torah interest. More information on the tragedy can be found no Israel National News.  Israel National News

Together with the nation of Israel, we pray for their children and extended family, and for the fulfillment of the promise that God will wipe away tears from all faces.

May we share good news in the coming weeks.

Wishing you and your families a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach
